OBAGI Skin Care

OBAGI Medical Products is the gold standard in skin care in Oklahoma City. They have everything from their coveted Nu-Derm system to mild and aggressive chemical peel options.

Some patients choose to begin on the entire system, and some start small and work their way up to a more aggressive level. Our staff can customize a protocol for your skin type and target very specific skin problems like acne, hyperpigmentation, large pores and wrinkles with OBAGI.

You can join the OBAGI Inner Circle to keep up-to-date with their latest products and tutorials. Below is a more detailed article written by one of our nurses about the OBAGI Nu-Derm system that was published in So6ix magazine.

Most Common Questions About OBAGI Skin Care

1. What kind of skin problems does OBAGI Nu-Derm correct?
If you use the products consistently, you can expect a rapid reduction of hyperpigmentation and sun damage, freckles, fine lines and wrinkles, lines around the eyes and mouth, large pore size and an overall smoother, more even skin tone.

2. How is this line different than others I’ve tried?
OBAGI is a medical-grade, prescription based skin care line. This means you can only get it from a verified physician. OBAGI’s star products are hydroquinone and Retin-A, both of which are prescriptions. Most of our patients have a dramatic reaction to these products within a week or so. You will not be wondering at the 3 or 4 month mark whether or not the line is working. You will notice changes in days. Most of the drug-store or department store brands are filled with inferior ingredients and usually do not give the patient any results.

3. Is it expensive?
Yes and no. To start the basic part of the line (with the active prescriptions included) usually runs you $500 or so. You can add or delete products to fit your needs better. However, most of the products will last you a very long time. The items patients need to replace often are the cleansers, toner, and Clear- the products you use twice a day. The OBAGI skin care line is easily the most bang for your buck at The Medical Spa. Often, many patients will prep for another procedure with OBAGI and will find they no longer need that extra treatment.

4. Will I have to use OBAGI forever?
The quick answer is, yes. We do want our patients to continue using their products. However, once your skin has completed the majority of the correction (usually 3-4 months), many patients go on a maintenance program where their regime is not so strict. Anybody that we’ve seen with amazing skin that is significantly older often contributes it to long-term Retin-A use.

5. Are there patients who should not use OBAGI?
Patients with a sulfite allergy are discouraged from using the hydroquinone containing products- Clear, Blender, and SunFader. Occasionally, we will also run across a patient with very sensitive skin. Because the OBAGI Nu-Derm system is very aggressive, we can switch out a few products for gentler ones. If in doubt, we can always do a test spot for any of our products before purchasing.

6. Are there other products that go with the OBAGI Nu-Derm system?
Yes, we have several supporting products! We have everything from the coveted Vitamin-C Serum to Elastiderm Eye Treatment Cream to help with tightening around the eyes. Many of our supporting products also compliment Botox, dermal fillers, Photofacials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.

NEW! Obagi Medical Products has come out with new tinted versions of our favorite sunscreen!! There is a cool and warm version to suit your own skin tone and we are obsessed!
