Why should I consider a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, reduces wrinkles, improves frown lines and places the eyebrows in a youthful position. This procedure is often combined with a facelift, eyelid lift, fat grafting to the cheeks, or Botox and fillers.

How does Brow Lift surgery work?

You will be given general anesthesia so that you will be comfortable during the surgical procedure and prescribed post-operative medication for discomfort.

Brow lifts can be performed in different ways. Some surgeons prefer using an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera on the end) and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be adjusted, correcting the source of visible creases and furrows in the forehead.

Endoscopic – Some surgeons prefer to perform a browlift through what is called a “coronal incision” The coronal incision is created from ear to ear across the top of the head within the hair-bearing skin. The forehead skin is then lifted and any muscle adjustment can be made under direct visualization. The resulting scar from a coronal brow lift is well concealed within the hair.

Coronal – For women with very high foreheads, an incision just at the anterior hairline may be recommended. In this way the brow can be lifted without altering the height of the front hairline. The resulting scar, while somewhat more visible, can often be hidden with bangs.

Brow lift incisions typically are closed with absorbable sutures, skin adhesives, and/or special clips.

How much down time should I expect with a brow lift procedure?

Just like any other operation, patients can expect a few hours in a recovery area and monitoring following your procedure. You should be able to return home the same day.
When your procedure is complete, a bandage could gently be placed around your head to minimize post brow lift swelling and bruising. Dr. Brou will advise you of your individual treatment plan and next steps, however, patients should expect swelling and bruising to remain for a week or more. Additionally, nerves will take time to grow and trigger normally which may lead to additional downtime for patients.

What can I expect as a result of my brow lift procedure?

Results appear within a few weeks as swelling and bruising subside to reveal smoother forehead skin and a more youthful, rested appearance. Most results are reached after a three month time period.

Are there any risks associated with a brow lift procedure?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure, and therefore risks are always involved as a result of receiving anesthesia as well as the procedure itself. Dr. Brou can help assess your unique health needs and advise you of any concerns to be aware of prior to undergoing surgery. Potential risks associated with brow lifts include: scarring, bleeding, infection, hair loss at incision site, nerve injury or weakness, asymmetry, skin loss, numbness, fluid buildup, pain, and swelling.

Why should I consider liposuction?

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, can slim and even reshape certain areas of the body. Liposuction removes excess fat deposits in stubborn areas that diet and exercise don’t always reach. Some of the most common areas treated by liposuction include:

  • The abdomen, love handles and waist
  • Thighs, hips and buttocks
  • Arms, neck and back
  • Calves and ankles

Ideal candidates for liposuction include adults within 30% of their ideal weight, with firm skin and good muscle tone. Patients considering liposuction should be healthy and free of life-threatening medical conditions or diseases which could impair healing.

It’s important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss treatment or an effective treatment for cellulite. Patients with stubborn areas of fat but who exercise regularly are the best candidates for liposuction.

What happens during a liposuction procedure?

Liposuction uses many small, inconspicuous incisions near the treatment area. First, a sterile liquid solution is injected into the treatment site. This solution reduces bleeding and trauma to healthy tissues. Then, a thin hollow tube also known as a cannula, is inserted into the small incisions, below the skin’s surface. Dr. Brou will slide the cannula in a back and forth motion to loosen stubborn fat cells. Those fat cells are then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum.

Additionally, Dr. Brou offers tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction methods, which are not only safer than previously-used methods but also offer a faster recovery time and can produce results that are smoother and unsurpassed by other methods of liposuction.

If you have concerns regarding the appearance and location of your surgical scars, discuss these with Dr. Brou during your pre-operative consultation.

How much down time should I expect with liposuction surgery?

Most patients can expect about a week of downtime after liposuction. You will be able to get up and move around freely, but you will have swelling and some soreness. We will give you a compression garment to wear for the first month to help with the swelling. Often times, patients will wear their garment on and off up to 4 months following surgery. The swelling will take several months to completely taper off and it can feel good to have the extra support.

What can I expect as a result of liposuction surgery?

Just as every person’s body contour is unique, results of your liposuction procedure will also vary. It is important to discuss all of your concerns and goals with Dr. Brou. During your consultation, Dr. Brou will advise you of likely outcomes for your appearance.

It may take weeks or months for post-liposuction swelling to completely subside. As swelling dissipates, your new body contours will begin to appear and develop. It is important to maintain a healthy diet and to exercise after fully healed from a liposuction procedure.

Are there any risks associated with liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure, and therefore risks are always involved as a result of receiving anesthesia as well as the procedure itself. Dr. Brou can help assess your unique health needs and advise you of any concerns to be aware of prior to undergoing surgery. Potential risks associated with liposuction include pain, swelling, irregular contours and loose skin, skin or nerve damage, infection, blood clots, fluid accumulation, scarring, bleeding or asymmetry, although rare.

Why should I consider eyelid surgery?

For most of us, the eye area is one of the most deeply affected by age. Eyelid surgery is designed to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. When done well, it restores a more youthful appearance to the eye area, making you appear more rested and alert. This procedure is often combined with a facelift, brow lift, fat grafting to the cheeks, or Botox and fillers.

Eyelid surgery can help correct a number of conditions including:

  • Removal of excess fat deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids.
  • Loose or sagging skin that disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid.
  • Removal of excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid including correcting bags under eyes.

How does eyelid surgery work?

Better known as a blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery restores your youthful gaze by correcting loose skin and sagging around the eyes.

Dr. Brou will place the incisions made during eyelid surgery so that they are well hidden within the natural lines and folds of the eyelid region. Each surgery varies; however upper eyelid surgery typically involves making an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and then removing excess skin or tightening the muscles in the eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery may involve an incision just below the lower lash line, followed by removal of excess skin or tissue. Eyelid incisions typically are closed with removable or absorbable sutures or skin adhesives.

What should I expect during recovery from eyelid surgery?

After your eyelid surgery is completed, lubricating ointment and ice packs may be applied, and in some cases your eyes may be loosely covered with gauze or protective covers. It is important to arrange for transportation home from the procedure.

Initial healing may include swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eyes and discomfort that can be controlled with medication, cold compresses and ointment. You must practice diligent sun protection and use darkly tinted sunglasses when outdoors until the healing process is fully complete, which could be a week or two.

What results can I expect following eyelid surgery?

Final results should appear within several weeks, but it may take up to a year for incision lines to fully soften into your eyelids’ natural creases. It is important to note that eyelid surgery is a significant procedure, and results are permanent. However, your skin and eyes will continue to age naturally and sun protection and proper skincare will improve the life of your results.

Are there any risks associated with eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery is an operation, and therefore risks are always involved as a result of receiving anesthesia as well as the procedure itself. Dr. Brou can help assess your unique health needs and advise you of any concerns to be aware of prior to undergoing surgery. Potential risks associated with eyelid surgery include temporarily blurred vision, dry eyes, pain, swelling, numbness, skin or nerve damage, infection, blood clots, fluid accumulation, scarring, and bleeding.

Why should I consider a face lift procedure?

Over time men and women alike may become concerned with signs of aging such as facial wrinkles and sagging. A facelift may be the right procedure for you if you’ve tried other cosmetic correction procedures without satisfaction for the following conditions:

  • Sagging around the middle of your face.
  • Deep lines and creases around your mouth or below your eyes.
  • Hollow cheeks or a loss of muscle tone.
  • Loose skin around the chin and jaw line.

While a face lift will cause you to look younger, it is important to note that a face lift does not stop the body’s natural aging process.

What happens during a face lift procedure?

Also known as rhytidectomy, a face lift is one of the most common plastic surgery techniques in Oklahoma City. It is a surgical procedure to correct the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. When done by a qualified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Brou, a face lift can tighten loose or sagging skin, soften wrinkles and refresh your look. You can combine a face lift with other procedures, such as a brow lift, eyelid lift, or fat grafting to the face. A quality face lift will not appear tight or unnatural.

A traditional face lift incision begins in the hairline, continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed and underlying tissue is repositioned. Skin is then tightened and trimmed away where necessary. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions.

If you have concerns regarding the appearance and location of your surgical scars, discuss these with Dr. Brou during your pre-operative consultation.

How much down time should I expect with a face lift procedure?

Just like any other operation, patients can expect several hours in a recovery area and monitoring following your procedure. An overnight stay may be required, although you should expect to be able to move and walk soon after surgery.

When your procedure is complete, a bandage could gently be placed around your face to minimize post face lift swelling and bruising. Dr. Brou will advise you of your individual treatment plan and next steps. However, patients should expect swelling and bruising to remain for a week or more. Additionally nerves will take time to grow and trigger normally which may lead to additional downtime for patients.

What can I expect as a result of my face lift procedure?

Just as every original appearance is unique, results of your face lift procedure will also vary. It is most important to discuss all of your concerns and goals with Dr. Brou. Following your consultation, Dr. Brou will advise you of likely outcomes for your appearance.

Dr. Brou can help assess your unique health needs and advise you of any concerns to be aware of prior to undergoing surgery. Heard about fat grafting in Oklahoma City?

Dr. Brou has the medical expertise and experience to help make sure you look and feel your best. If you are considering a fat grafting procedure in Oklahoma City, let Dr. Brou and his knowledgeable staff assist you today.

Why should I consider a fat grafting procedure?

Over time men and women alike may become concerned with signs of aging such as facial wrinkles and sagging or hollowing of the cheeks. Fat grafting may be the right procedure for you if you’ve tried other cosmetic correction procedures without satisfaction for the following conditions:

  • Stubborn wrinkles and facial lines.
  • Sagging around the middle of your face.
  • Deep lines and creases around your mouth or below your eyes.
  • Hollow cheeks or a loss of muscle tone.

While fat grafting is not as severe as a face lift, it is a great alternative procedure that will cause your skin to appear younger and smoother. A fat grafting procedure is different in that it removes years of aging from the face without any risk of scarring or the need for sutures and often replaces the need for fillers in the face. It is important to note that a fat grafting procedure does not stop the body’s natural aging process.

What happens during a fat grafting procedure?

Dr. Brou will use a special surgical technique and instrument to remove fat cells from the thighs or abdomen and then redistribute those cells to the facial area to eliminate lines and wrinkles, augment the lips or accentuate cheeks. Before being injected into a new area, your fat cells will be processed by centrifugation. This process eliminates all components of the harvested fat that may not be viable for reinjection. Fat transfers may also be used in buttock augmentations. Fat grafting is a unique option for filling facial imperfections because the material used comes naturally from your own body and is therefore more easily to adapt to the injection site and less likely to be rejected.

How much down time should I expect with a fat grafting procedure?

After a fat grafting procedure Dr. Brou will apply compression garments to the treatment area. Although some swelling and bruising is likely after the procedure this typically does not require medical intervention or prescription pain relievers. Swelling and bruising from the removal site should completely resolve after 2-3 weeks.

Are there any risks associated with a fat grafting procedure?

Fat grafting is unique from other fillers because there is no risk of allergic reaction – it is performed using your own fat cells. However, as with any surgery, fat grafting has potential complications such as pain, bleeding, scarring, infection, swelling and bruising.

Real patient reviews:

“Dr. Juan Brou is an excellent surgeon. He went over and beyond what is expected of a surgeon. He came in over an hour early on December 24th, 2009 so we could get an early start home. If he had not we would not have made it home to Elk City. They closed the interstate 40 right behind us!

There are good doctors and excellent doctors, but very seldom do you find an excellent doctor and an exceptional person together! Dr. Juan Brou is rated excellent in my eyes. Dr. Brou will perform any other surgery I will have done. I admire and respect Dr. Juan Brou.”
