Commonly Asked Questions About Kybella:
The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. You and our staff will decide how many treatments you need. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment is not expected.
That really will vary patient from patient, but most people can expect to need 2-4 treatments spaced at least 1 month apart.
There is minimal discomfort associated with a Kybella treatment, as we numb the area with lidocaine, if desired. The session is remarkably fast and you will not be in our office very long. Common side effects can include swelling, bruising, temporary numbness, or redness of the treated area.
Kybella is only FDA-approved to treat the fat underneath the chin. Any other body part would be considered an “off-label” use.
